Class Options

Biblical View of the Church

Led by Todd McAllister & John Hoover

If you are interested in pursuing church membership at MBC, or are new to our church and would like to find out more about us, this is the class for you. Topics covered will include purpose and beliefs of the church; leadership structure and ministries at MBC; as well as living out the “one anothers” of the New Testament.

Who is this Jesus?

Led by Gene Strait & Ron Risser

Who is Jesus is the most important question anyone could ever answer! Are you able to defend the deity of Christ to those who say otherwise? What exactly has God revealed in the person of Jesus Christ? What has Jesus done that makes him the key figure of all of history? What is he doing now? When will he return; and what will his kingdom be like at this time?

Join us for what could be one of the most important studies of your life! “…I count all things loss compared to the surpassing excellence of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.” Phil 3:8

Apologetics 2

Led by Eric Hine

Biblical apologetics is the active defense of the Christian faith. It will be the goal of this elective to put the truth of 1 Peter 3:15-16 into practice: “But sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence; and keep a good conscience so that in the thing in which you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame.”

PREREQUISITE: If you took part 1 of the class last summer, you are welcome to participate in part 2 this summer. It is designed as a more interactive learning environment, providing those who participate with an opportunity in class to practice what is being learned.

Life on Life Evangelism at the YIC

Led by Todd Stewart

Adults 18 years and older are welcome to join us as we minister to the youth in the Shelter Program at the Youth Intervention Center (YIC) this summer. The YIC is a residential facility located a few minutes from the church in Lancaster city. It provides housing for “at-risk” youth ages 10-18, many in the foster care system. The youth are at the YIC while awaiting transition to a foster placement, another program, a group home, or home reunification. We have been working with the YIC for the past 8 years and have built relationships with youth and staff.

Each Sunday we will meet at the YIC and provide food, an activity and a Bible lesson from 9:50-11:45. There is also opportunity to serve them on select Saturdays throughout the summer for a fun evening of food and activities. Please contact Todd & Audrey Stewart if more information is needed: atstewart519@gmail.com or (717) 715-6031.

Women’s Elective: Belonging to God — Called to Be His

Led by Shawna Henry, Katie Fichtner, Kathy Hoover, Kris McAllister, Karel Strait, and Laura Xentaras

When did you last sit in wonder of the fact that the Lord of all the universe chose you to be His child? Join the ladies of MBC this summer in eight weeks of marveling over what it means to belong to our Creator God and how His love calls out a response in our hearts. We pray that our time will be full of sweet reflection in the Word, faithful teaching, and fruitful discussion as we seek to grow deeper in knowing and loving our precious Lord.

Spiritual Friendship

Led by Mark Breneman & Jimmy Knapp

It was once said that we are the average of our 5 closest friends. Does that make you squirm a little bit, or does it make you appreciate whom the Lord has surrounded you with? Regardless of your answer, the Spiritual Friendship elective will equip you to turn your casual relationships with other believers into Gospel-centered beacons of Christ’s love.

This elective will examine what scripture has to say about friendships and walking in close community with other believers. It will use Jesus as the perfect example of a Spiritual Friend to those around him. Through his example and his teachings, you will develop the strategies and skills conducive to building friendships marked by mutual encouragement, accountability, and loving service to one another.

Answering Your Call to Suffer

Led by Steve Scheidt

Have you ever wondered why suffering comes into the life of a Christian? Far from being a surprise or a mistake, God’s Word teaches that we are called to suffer, and that Christ Himself has gone before us as our perfect example. Join us for this practical, hope-filled study and get equipped for suffering, not if, but when it comes!

Each week we will explore what it means to follow in Jesus’ steps in various trials, learning how suffering refines our faith, glorifies God, and prepares us for eternal joy. “To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.” (1 Peter 2:21)
