We are grateful to God for his saving grace in your life and your desire to follow our Lord into baptism!

After a person confesses Jesus as Lord and receives God’s offer of salvation, baptism is a powerful outward sign regarding what has already happened inwardly.

FAQ

Please feel free to approach one of the pastors or elders if you have any other questions. Or email office@millersvillebiblechurch.org.

What is baptism?

Baptism is a ceremony where a person publicly identifies with Jesus Christ in His death, burial and resurrection. (Romans 6:3-4)

Why should I be baptized?

If you have heard the gospel of Jesus Christ, believed in Him and have received His Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13) then baptism is a step of obedience to our Lord. (Matthew 28:19-20) Baptism is an opportunity to publicly confess your faith in Christ. Your testimony will be a witness to unbelievers and an encouragement to brothers and sisters in Christ.

How do we baptize?

We baptize by immersion because we believe baptism identifies a person with Jesus Christ in His death, burial and resurrection. The person performing the baptism will lower the person being baptized into the water, symbolizing death to sin, and raise the person out of the water, symbolizing new life in Christ.

What if I’m not sure if I’m ready?

We recommend that you talk with one of our spiritual leaders to help answer your questions.

Do I need to be a member of the church to be baptized?

No. Baptism is a prerequisite for entering into covenant membership at MBC.

Can children be baptized?

We believe baptism is an important step of obedience that requires spiritual maturity, including a personal conviction and confidence that one’s faith in Christ is genuinely his or her own. We have found that this level of maturity is essential when making the decision to be baptized. Therefore, we have chosen to wait until an individual is at least high school age before being baptized.

I’ve already been baptized. Should I be baptized again?

The most important question for you to answer is “What was your spiritual condition when you were baptized?” If you were a small child or unsaved, then you will need to be baptized as a follower of Jesus Christ.

What do I need the day of my baptism?

You are advised to wear a dark shirt, pants/shorts, and flip-flops/sneakers to prevent slipping. Remember you will get wet, light colors will become see-through!

Be sure to bring the following:

  • Complete change of clothes
  • Towel
  • Plastic bag for wet clothes
  • Final copy of your testimony that you will read from
